"Alternative medicine" refers to methods you may use instead of standard ones. Alternative medicine includes therapies like acupuncture, biofeedback, chiropractic, massage and relaxation.

At Allina Hospitals & Clinics, we see such methods as ways to enhance healing. When we use alternative medicine with standard medical treatments, we call it "complementary care" or "integrative medicine."

Complementary care & integrative medicine at Allina

Integrative medicine takes a "whole person" approach to health care. We blend conventional medicine with therapies that focus on healing as much as curing.
