Emergency Services
Mercy Hospital is equipped to provide emergency medical and trauma services for patients in the Northwest Metro 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Staffed by board-certified emergency physicians and trauma surgeons, Mercy's Emergency Department includes trauma stabilization rooms, specialized rooms for pediatrics, cardiac, orthopedics and gynecology. Families of trauma and critical care patients can remain close by in privacy areas.
Mercy works closely with Allina Medical Transporation, EMS services and area first responders. A helicopter landing pad allows Mercy to receive emergency patients by air or transport patients on for specialty care, such as to a Burn Center.
Designated Trauma Center
Mercy Hospital is a Minnesota-designated Level 3 Trauma Center and is undergoing a Level 2 Trauma Center site review by the American College of Surgeons in April 2010.
Prompt evaluation, expert treatment, ongoing inpatient care and rehabilitation are required when someone has suffered a serious injury. Trauma surgeons are at Mercy around the clock to direct the care of seriously injured patients. Accredited Chest Pain Center
Chest pain may signal a serious problem - and at Mercy, we treat all patients with chest pain seriously. Anyone who has heart attack symptoms is strongly encouraged to come to the Emergency Department for evaluation.
Cardiac specialists are supported by advanced diagnostic technology to provide rapid evaluation, intervention and treatment for chest pain patients.
The Society of Chest Pain Centers awarded accreditation to Mercy's Emergency Department, Heart & Vascular Center and emergency medical personnel for their extensive and coordinated effort to reduce deaths from heart disease. Mercy has been named as a 100 Top Hospitals® for Cardiovascular Care by Thompson Reuters for seven consecutive years.
ER Express
At Mercy Hospital, ER Express is available for minor illnesses and injuries
every day from noon to midnight. A triage nurse is located near the ER entrance
to evaluate patients and determine the level of care required -- ER Express
or traditional emergency care. A registration clerk is stationed with the triage
nurse to ensure speedy registration.
