If your family has a history of cancer, you may want to consider genetic counseling. Mercy's professional genetic counselor and medical oncologist (a doctor who specializes in cancer diagnosis and treatment) will assess your risk. After the assessment, you may be referred to an oncology or your primary care physician for follow up. Our program offers:
collection and analysis of a family history
counseling and education
informed consent regarding genetic testing of DNA for cancer-causing mutations and DNA banking for future testing
Worried about inheriting cancer or passing it on?
Ask your doctor if genetic counseling is right for you.
